Primitive pit fired unglazed clay, recycled timber, turquoise, and very fine leather. That's all there is to it.
Well, that and an artists eye!
Earth and Fire is adjustable, by way of sliding knots, from approximately 48cm (19") up to a whopping 82cm (32")! This gorgeous necklace could just as easily be worn at either extreme, or anywhere in between!
Below the adjustable part, the thongs tie, and then fall a further 18cm (7") in two strands, which are threaded through single beads for part of the way, using a gnarled recycled timber bead as the point to split into two again. The pit fired clay beads are all different, some dark and rough, some smooth and light. Some pressed with patterns, some plain. I love them, they're quite unique - adding something quite different to the simple turquoise discs at either end of the beaded section.
This piece is the epitome of simplicity, yet it also seems to sing with warmth and love. It's not easy to describe. Earth and Fire.. that's what I see. Earth and Fire...
