Stoned might seem an odd title for a piece of jewellery, but consider that it's made from pebbles I collected on the beach, carnelian nuggets, and a little blob of silver, and they're all threaded onto tied hemp cord. I thought Stoned was perfect for it!
The dark brown organic hemp cord has been plaited and tied, and wrapped, and all sorts of things, just whatever I felt was right at that place in this piece. The clasp is made from a loop and a stone - like a buttonhole. There are three dangly bits which can move about the cord, but don't slide around a lot, from which hang a bunch of carnelian nuggets, a stone with a blob of silver (eloquent, isn't it?), and another with two plain stones. These stones are all smooth flat pebbles that I've drilled through the centre in order to thread them. The one with the silver was torch fired with the silver on it, which has also given the pebble some gorgeous coloured highlights.
This piece is approx 50cm (20") long, but may be shortened by simply tying knots in it. The clasp can be worn either at the back or the front.
Stoned is very primal, very simple, and very fun!
